| FAQ – CensUs |
| |
1. Is the system IR or RF?
The system is Radio Frequency so there are no problems with line of sight. The receiver can be placed anywhere within the room that the handsets are being used.
2. What is the range for communication with the receiver?
The range for communication with the receiver is 500m which we think will be more than adequate for most situations. The first time the handsets are used with the receiver they have to be paired to the receiver by holding down the? button and holding the handset next to the receiver.
3. How many handsets do I have to buy?
The average set is 30 but you can buy as many as you wish. Don’t forget that with each set you will need a receiver – so if you bought 30 handsets and wanted to use them as two sets of 15 then you would need to purchase a second receiver.
4. Does the system have its own editing tool to create questions?
No – that is the power of this system you can either ask a verbal question or display a question within any application such as Word, Notepad, a virtual whiteboard area, from a CD ROM or from a webpage. The toolbar always floats over the application being used but can be minimised when not required as an icon in the system tray.
5. Is the system portable?
Yes the complete system comes in its own strong case and can be carried to wherever it is required. In the case are storage slots for all the handsets + a receiver and USB cable + a charging cable so that the handsets can be charged up 8 at a time. The SIM cards are supplied separately as you order as many as required. |
6. Is the system intuitive to use?
The CensUs system is very easy to use and is a great way to get started with response systems. We suggest you begin by simply asking verbal questions and harvest data to provide formative assessment data which can either be saved in Excel, copied and pasted into another application or deleted as required. No complicated setting up or creating questions just 4 mouse clicks and you’re away!
7. Can I save the reports that I create?
The data to any spontaneous question you ask is always stored automatically so you can return and view it again at any time. If you have pre mapped your questions and run a presentation then you will be asked if you wish to save the data as an Excel spreadsheet.
8. How do I get all of my children’s details into the system if I want to save data and display later in Excel?
You can import lists of data as csv files so that when you run an activity or ask a question you can select a class or group to present to and the handset numbers assigned to those people will be displayed at the foot of the page.
9. Is it an open or closed question tool?
Both - as you do not need to supply an answer and therefore it can just be used to canvass opinion or you could put the answer in when creating the slide mapping however you will not get any feedback on the handsets. The system was primarily designed to be an open, non objective based questioning tool. |
10. What is slide mapping?
If the user knows that they will be presenting some questions in whatever format ie from within a piece of teaching software or as part of a quiz on a webpage you can set up CensUs so that it knows how many and what type of questions you are going to be asking. You can also configure it so that it automatically opens up the piece of software that you want to use and takes you to exactly the right place ready to start. |
11. Is it designed to work with any particular make of whiteboard?
No – not at all, you could use this system with any make of interactive whiteboard that you are using.
12. Do I need to buy a site licence to install the software on all the machines where I work?
No – once you have bought the system you have effectively also bought the site licence and so there are no restrictions on how many machines you install the software on. Remember though that the software is of no use unless you have the hardware to go with it!!
13. Can I buy more handsets to work from the same receiver at a later date if I want to?
Yes – of course you can. Simply configure the handset to the id that you wish it to have and pair it up with your current receiver.
14. How do I charge up the handsets?
We supply a charging cable with 8 points on it or if you have bought a set of 30 handsets we supply 2 charging cables. The indicator on the handset will show you when you need to charge up the handsets.
15. Can I have ClassComm and CensUs running at the same time.
No because they both use the same receiver and COM port that the receiver is plugged into. It’s like a queue of cars waiting to turn right at a junction when there is constant stream of traffic coming the other way. One queue will have to stop moving and give way to the other. |
